Texas Our Texas

Springtime in the Garden Block of the Month from Alice WilhoitFinally!!! The Texas Our Texas quilt pattern has come out of retirement! The Texas Our Texas quilt, size 68” x 78”, is designed as a Block of the Month. There are twelve blocks employing several different techniques with detailed, easy-to-follow instructions provided. Each pattern is printed in color, and has Texas folklore, recipes and “talkin’ Texan” lessons. I am thrilled that it has been so popular. When my husband was asked why he thought this pattern was so popular, he replied “Texas just isn’t a place you live, it’s a state of mind”. With so many requests, I decided to revise parts of the quilt and add updated techniques. Thanks for making it our #1 seller over the years..

What Inspires These Original Applique Quilt Patterns?

Ring Around The Posy Applique PatternAlice is inspired by nature and her everyday life to keep designing new patterns to keep you busy piecing blocks, and appliquéing flowers, stars, and hummingbirds and learning new embroidery stitches.

Antique quilts also provide Alice with inspiration for new patterns like Ring Around the Posy. Alice took her inspiration from a worn family quilt with pieced hexagons. She updated the flower construction and selected a variety of 1930s reproduction fabrics. By adding sashing around the flower blocks and a meandering vine appliqué border, Alice brings this quilt pattern into the 21st century.

Remember When Applique PatternRemember When is an appliqué quilt pattern featuring baskets and lots of embroidery in honor of her grandmother, Gladys Jewel, who loved embroidered linens. The pattern features twelve different baskets inspired by her grandmother’s antique linens and her old printed packages of embroider designs. Alice credits her grandmother as responsible for her own creativity with a needle and fabric.

Flying High is a tribute to Alice’s admiration for the red, white, and blue of the Texas flag waving across the clear blue Texas sky. She had worked on the individual blocks first, not knowing how she might combine them. Inspiration came as she daydreamed of how she could place the blocks right down the Texas flag. This original quilt pattern honors Texans near and far.

Alice has won awards for her appliqué and for her pieced quilts at several quilt shows over a period of years.
